the scary thing that happened today
So I was walking back to my dorm and I hear this clattering noise. I look in the direction of the noise and I see this guy rolling off of a bike and onto the pavement. At first I think that he just had a mishap and his bike fell slowly over sideways. I stop and pause to take in the situation and ask myself if he would need my help. he walks to the side, off of the sidewalk and is hunched over and I know that he's not all right. This kid had an accident in the middle of a busy walkway and only a handful of people stop to offer help. He can't catch his breath, he has scratches on his forehead, scrapes on his elbow and a hole in his arm where he landed on a rock.
I'm just a little disturbed on everyone's reaction. Many people just observd the action caused by the noise and just kept walking. It was everyone's lack of reaction. This kid could have been seriously injured and it would have been a minute or so before anyone did anything.
Apparently what happened was that he looked away for a second and ran into the curb and flew forward off his bake and hit his head on the cement. He seemed to be ok, but the injuries on his arm were bleeding with ease. While a few more people stopped by, I walked to Talley and retrieved some napkins so that he could clean himself up and stop the bleeding which turned out to be not as bad as I suspected. The bleeding had stopped and he came to his senses and the two girls and I recommended that he go to the health center. This is probablly one of the worst accidents that I have witnessed (other than knocking out Jon when we were playing racquetball). He took a pretty nasty spill and I hope that he is ok and everything is fine.
